If your drone weighs more than 250 grams, U.S. law requires you to register it with the FAA and label it with your registration number. This applies whether you fly recreationally or commercially.
Marking your drone correctly is an important step in staying compliant with FAA rules.
What the FAA Requires
After registering your drone at faadronezone-access.faa.gov, you’ll receive a unique registration number. According to the FAA, this number must be:
-
Clearly visible from the outside of the drone
-
Easy to read without using tools
-
Attached in a way that stays in place during flight
Marking the inside of a battery compartment is no longer allowed. The label must be placed on the outer surface of the drone.
The Easiest Way to Stay Compliant
You can use a permanent marker, engrave the number, or apply a sticker. Most pilots choose stickers because they are quick to apply, clean, and easy to replace if needed.
Our Drone ID stickers are designed to meet the FAA’s labeling requirements. They are made from a durable, laminated material and sized to fit most drones without getting in the way.
Why It Matters
Correctly labeling your drone helps ensure you're flying legally and responsibly. It also makes it easier to recover your drone if it’s lost or lands somewhere unexpected.
Applying a visible registration number takes just a few seconds, but it can save you time, money, and trouble down the line.
