How to ID Mark Your Drone in Germany 2025: The Ultimate Guide

How to ID Mark Your Drone in Germany 2025: The Ultimate Guide

If you fly a drone in Germany, you need a clear, durable operator ID (e-ID) marking on the aircraft. This article explains who needs a label, what must be on it, where to place it, and how to stay compliant with minimal fuss.

Who needs a drone ID label

  • Most pilots do. If your drone is 250 g or more, you must register with the LBA to get your electronic operator ID, the e-ID, and mark your drone with it.
  • Sub-250 g drones with a camera also require operator registration and a visible e-ID label.
  • Your e-ID identifies you, not the drone, so label each aircraft you fly.

What must be on the label

  • Only your e-ID is required on the physical label.
  • Your name and address are not required, but may help recovery if your drone gets lost.
  • Remote ID broadcast is separate. Some classes require a digital transmission, that is not a visual sticker.

Placement, visibility, and size

  • Outside the airframe, securely attached, and easily visible without opening covers.
  • No legal font size is specified, but it must be clearly legible at a glance.
  • Choose a spot that is flat and low-risk for abrasion, for example near the battery door, top plate, or arm root. Avoid prop wash edges and skid bottoms where stickers can scrape.

Does it need to be fireproof?

Older national rules once mentioned fireproof plates. That is no longer required. What still matters is readability and permanence. Paper labels fade, smear, and peel. If the marking falls off, you are not compliant.

StickerHill Drone ID Stickers use a laminated polyester film similar to professional labeling systems. They are:

  • Water and UV resistant, suitable for outdoor use over many seasons.
  • Abrasion and chemical resistant, safe against cleaning sprays and frequent use.
  • Temperature stable, they hold in summer heat and winter cold.
  • Ultra light, ideal for keeping sub-250 g drones under the weight limit.

Quick compliance checklist

  1. Register with the LBA and get your e-ID.
  2. Apply your e-ID on the outside of each drone, secure and visible.
  3. Enable Remote ID broadcast on models and operations that require it.

Frequently asked questions

Is a fireproof plate required?

No. The current requirement is that the marking is visible, legible, and securely attached. Fire resistance is not mandatory.

What size should the text be?

The law does not set a size. We recommend characters at least 1,5 mm high for easy visual checks.

Do I need my name and address on the drone?

No. Only the operator e-ID is required on the label.

Does Remote ID replace the sticker?

No. Remote ID is a digital broadcast for certain classes and operations. The physical e-ID label is still required.
